An unprepared fossil Fish Coccosteus (primitive fish) head from the old red sandstone, Cromarty Ross-shire, Scotland. (As described by Hugh Miller 1802-1856) Coccosteus had bony dental plates embedded in its jaw which formed a beak. Devonian era.
This rare specimen was collected in the 1980s and comes with its original card label from an old Nottingham collector.
Length of fish head is approx 12 x 8.5cm. Entire block length is approx 22 x 18cm. Weight is approx 3.4kg.
