Exceptionally preserved plant fossil, Horsetail believed to be Annularia radiata. Specimen 1. 8cm x 6cm 150gms from Crock Hey, Wigan, Lancashire UK Carboniferous

The coal from this Coal Field was extracted for many years. This opencast mine was closed down in 1992 and has been filled in. At this site, concretions of siderite plants & small animals from the coal swamps, Late Carboniferous, were preserved in outstandingly good quality.
